Spanish Mount Point Volunteer Excavation - March 2017
South Carolina State Parks is hosting a five-day volunteer dig at Spanish Mount Point at Edisto Beach State Park, March 6-10, 2017.
Spanish Mount Point is a 4,000 year old Native American shellfish mound located on Edisto Island, 45 miles south of Charleston. Excavations have focused on the recovery of information before the mound is lost to coastal erosion forever. This January, we will be continuing excavations along what remains of the mound slope. Volunteers will participate in digging and screening. You are welcome to come for just a day or two or stay the whole time! Spots are limited—please RSVP to Karen Smith at email@example.com, Stacey Young at firstname.lastname@example.org, or David Jones at email@example.com.
