Countdown to total eclipse

Student volunteers needed for campus and community events.

In less than two months, Columbia, South Carolina will experience a rare total solar eclipse. Scientists and sky watchers are counting down to Aug. 21, when the moon will align perfectly with the sun launching us into total darkness for two minutes and 36 seconds in the middle of the afternoon.

Students interested in an inside view of this historic event are encouraged to volunteer to help with a variety of eclipse weekend events. Sign up online through the physics and astronomy department.
